What We Do

History of AccessABLE Rec. The AccessABLE Rec. program was initiated in 1975 by the ARC and parents of children and adult children who had special needs living in the Rochester Community. Initial activities included arts, crafts, summer day camps and swimming. The first program coordinator was hired in 1975 to develop the program through the Parks & Recreation Department. Over the years, with the help and commitment of advocates, families, and community partners, the AccessABLE Rec. program has grown into a year-round community recreation program serving approximately 2000 people per year with cognitive, social and physical disabilities.

Our mission is to enhance the physical, social, and recreational experiences of persons who identify as having a cognitive, social and/or physical disability. Through collaborations with other community partners it is possible to provide a wider variety of accessible, affordable, and quality activities.
