Who We Are

Family Promise Rochester was launched in 1999 as Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Rochester after a group of caring individuals saw the need to provide shelter, meals and comprehensive assistance to homeless families in the Rochester, Minnesota area. The nonprofit opened its doors to guests in March of 2001. For 20 years FPR operated a day center where families were during the day where they received case management services, access to showers and laundry, and a place to be to work on homework or job applications. FPR relocated to it's current location in September 2020 to a location where they are able to shelter families as well as operate a day center.

What We Do

Our mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.

Our Interfaith Hospitality Network is a network of more than 40 faith communities that work together to provide food, shelter and loving support when a family finds themselves without shelter. More than 1400 volunteers work within the network to provide the nightly housing, meals and support. Family Promise staff provide the support and case management to assist the families as they seek sustainable employment and permanent housing.

In 2005 Family Promise Rochester added a family stabilization program. In our shelter program, the stabilizer counselor works with the guest families on a daily basis, helping them to network in the community to find housing, employment and stability. Our counselor holds life skills training classes for the guests; helping them with financing, parenting, rental and legal issues. After securing housing, the counselor works with the families for one year in a follow-along program to provide stability so that the children stay in the same schools, and the families remain in their housing and do not fall back into homelessness. Families that work with the follow along program have a success rate of over 75% remaining stable.
