Who We Are
Minnesota Reading Corps, the country's largest state AmeriCorps program, and its sister program Minnesota Math Corps are working to ensure that Minnesota children are on track to read by the end of third grade and proficient in algebra by eighth grade. We plan to train and place more than 1,000 AmeriCorps members as literacy tutors and math tutors in 700+ preschools, elementary, middle and junior high schools across Minnesota. We have seen high rates of success in the students we reach, due in large part to the rigorous training in research-based strategies that our tutors receive. In addition, joining the program as a tutor is excellent professional experience and our tutors experience intrinsic growth themselves.
What We Do
Minnesota Reading Corps and Math Corps are working to close the achievement gap in Minnesota and helping ensure Minnesota children become successful readers by the end of 3rd grade, and are proficient in math by the end of eighth grade. Minnesota Reading Corps began in 2003 with just 25 AmeriCorps members and has grown every year to become the nation's largest state AmeriCorps program. Minnesota Math Corps joined the organization in 2008 and has also seen yearly growth.
