Who We Are
Founded locally in 1986, NAMI Southeast Minnesota is an affiliate of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of people affected by mental illness. Our mission is to improve mental wellness through listening, advocating, informing and leading.
Our staff and volunteers are comprised of people with mental illness, family members and professionals. We offer critical education, advocacy and support programs in the community at no charge to support the individual, their loved ones and the mental health care system.
We do this by working to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness, encouraging those with mental illness to seek treatment, and advocating policies and practices that encourage the development of equitable, community-based mental health services which empower active recovery.
NAMI Southeast Minnesota programs inspire hope — hope that you and your loved ones experience the fullest level of recovery possible.
What We Do
YOU ARE NOT ALONE! We listen! We inform! We advocate! We lead! Whether you are person living with a mental illness or a family member/caregiver, or prefer a group or one-on-one setting, we have something for you. Our education programs help people living with a mental illness, their loved ones and community members understand life with a mental health challenge. We amplify conversations that matter by sharing stories, participating in community initiatives and contacting policymakers to help them build services and systems sensitive and responsive to people affected by mental illness. Through public awareness events, community involvement and connection with the media, NAMI Southeast Minnesota's expertise reduces the barriers and discrimination that result from misunderstanding about poor mental health and mental illness.
