Join us on Wednesday, July 15 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Walk a downtown neighborhood route to distribute flyers to historically hard-to-count populations living in Census Tract 1 and Census Tract 5. United Way staff will share insight into how the Census influences the availability of community resources and why we are choosing to raise awareness in this way. For every person not counted in the census, our community forfeits $2,800.
Each route is about 2.5 miles and will take 45 minutes - 1 hour.
Starting and ending at United Way of Olmsted County, volunteers will walk in groups of three and distribute the Census flyers at homes and apartments in Census Tract 1 or Census Tract 5. Paper and digital maps will be available day of.
This is an outdoor, social distancing opportunity!
Masks are encouraged, but not required. Please meet us outside of United Way of Olmsted County at the playground to the west of the building (free parking is available on-site). Due to road construction, please take 11th Ave NW to 1st St NW.
As we come together, we would also love to document this experience and encourage everyone to be part of a group photo. That being said, please wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. We also recommend bringing sunscreen and water.
In the instance of rain, we will reach out by 2:30 p.m. on July 15 to notify volunteers of cancellation and reschedule to another date (TBD) in mid-July.
