Hospice pet therapy volunteers are teams of an adult and a certified therapy animal who are sensitive to the needs of hospice patients and families. Hospice volunteers serve as supportive companions and patient advocates. Hospice pet therapy volunteers can visit with patients, converse, facilitate legacy/memory making activities, listen, provide vigil or other meaningful interactions. All Mayo Clinic Hospice Volunteers must be at least 18 years or older and are provided with a robust and comprehensive training to help you feel confident in your abilities to offer supportive presence to hospice patients and bereaved.
