You can help make a difference in the life of a senior in need! Family Service Rochester is a non-profit organization providing seniors with assistance such as transportation, friendly visits, light housekeeping, yard work and repairs by connecting volunteers with those that need help.

Volunteers set their own schedule and decide what days and how many hours they can help.

Application Process

We ask volunteers to complete a 3-step application process that includes a background check, watching a short orientation video, and signing a confidentiality/privacy policy statement. Once these three steps are complete you are ready to be matched and to start volunteering!

We are seeking individuals with a valid drivers license and current insurance who are willing, on a volunteer basis without remuneration, to deliver hot meals to the homes of people who qualify for our service on the basis of income, age, disability or need. Regular and substitute drivers are needed.

Step Up to SIT is seeking high-school students and other community volunteers willing to babysit for healthcare and other essential workers in need of childcare! Matching individual volunteers to babysit one single family limits transmission and allows our essential workers to continue to do their jobs.

Volunteers OR parents seeking childcare may use the sign up form to provide contact information, schedule availability, general location, COVID health risks, references, etc. One question asks if the person babysitting is willing to volunteer their time to lessen a family’s financial strain. If they respond yes, they are matched with a family needing a volunteer. We also have a live google form if people would like to submit their volunteer hours for recognition/confirmation of volunteer work!

LRT is looking to recruit students K-12 students that want to volunteer their time as an online tutor. Based on your liabilities and preferences, we will match you to a fitting tutee. With the COVID-19 pandemic causing prolonged school closures, many students are experiencing disruptions in their academic trajectories. LRT is hoping to mitigate some of those negative repercussions by connecting volunteer student tutors to students in need of tutoring.

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then becoming a Foster Grandparent Volunteer maybe right for you! We currently need Foster Grandparent Volunteers in Rochester & Stewartville!

Our Foster Grandparent Volunteers serve at a variety of locations throughout the region. The volunteers go to these sites and are role models, mentors, and friends to children with exceptional needs. The program provides a way for volunteers age 55 and over to stay active by serving children and youth in their communities.

All you need to join is the ability to give the kind of comfort and love that sets a child on the path toward a successful future. If you’re 55 or older and want to share your experience and compassion, you have what it takes to be a Foster Grandparent.

Requirements: Volunteers have to be willing to serve at least 10 hours per week (schedules are flexible-- you set the hours that work best for you) and are 55+ years old. Our volunteer undergo background checks and we provide any training required. In return for your time and commitment, you will receive a small stipend, mileage reimbursement, ongoing training, and recognition.

Volunteers make a difference every day, whether it’s by delivering Meals on Wheels, grocery shopping, monitoring a visit at the Family Access Center or serving on the board or a committee. Volunteers play a crucial role in our programs and services. There are many ways you can become involved in our community by volunteering with Family Service Rochester. Below is a list and brief description of our opportunities.

MEALS ON WHEELS:
Volunteers deliver noon meals to the elderly and people with disabilities who are unable to prepare or access a meal. Meals are delivered seven days a week; each route takes about an hour to deliver. Flexible schedules are available.

TRANSPORTATION:

Our Team of Transportation Volunteers helps seniors and those with disabilities stay mobile with ride assistance.

HANDYWORKER/CHORE:
Volunteers help elderly persons with minor household maintenance and repair. Jobs may include: minor carpentry, painting, raking, window washing, gardening and other projects. Volunteers work on an on-call basis.

LAWN MOWING/ SNOW REMOVAL:
Volunteers help older adults with routine lawn mowing or snow removal. Whenever possible, volunteers are matched with an older adult living in close proximity. Volunteers may use their own equipment or the homeowner’s lawn mower/snow blower/shovel.

HOUSEKEEPING:
Volunteers help older adults by providing routine housekeeping. Volunteers are matched with an older adult typically clean weekly or every other week

GROCERY SHOPPING:
Volunteers help older adults by grocery shopping for them on a weekly or every other week basis. Volunteers are matched with an older adult; whenever possible that lives in close proximity.

FAMILY ACCESS CENTER:
Volunteers monitor parenting times and exchanges at the Family Access Center. This service is built on the belief that all children can benefit by maintaining a relationship with both parents.

SEASONAL CHORES:
Volunteers help older adults with seasonal chores including leaf raking, window washing, changing storm windows / screens, etc. Volunteers can help on a one-time or ongoing basis. This is great opportunity for groups and families as well!

BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
Family Service Rochester’s all volunteer board of directors provides oversight and policy development for the organization. Family Service Rochester seek a board that is representative of the community, and comprised of members that are invested in pursuing the agency’s mission. The Board of Directors meets every other month and committees as assigned.

Are you someone that enjoys providing comfort to others?  What is more relaxing than a hand massage?  Not only do our Hand Massage volunteers offer relief and comfort to the guests at Gift of Life Transplant House but they also offer companionship.

You can be a part of making a difference in someone's life by volunteering as a Tour Guide.  All potential guests must have a tour of the facility to learn the rules and function of the house prior to their first stay.  We looking for people with dynamic personalities to give an informative guided tour of Gift of Life Transplant House.  Our tour guides are responsible for providing the tours and answering any questions regarding the house, costs, background, rules, etc.

Training is provided.  Shifts are available Monday - Friday 10am - 1pm or 1pm - 5pm.
