Volunteers are needed to administer the program, as well as to conduct the Home Safety Checks. Below is a job description of the role. Additional education will be provided. Home Safety Corps Today, Americans are living longer while staying active and healthy. However, as people age, they become more prone to falls leading to injury, loss of independence, and fear of falling again. The good news is that falls are preventable and aging itself does not cause falls. Because most falls occur at home, a home safety corps volunteer can help an older adult improve their safety at home by identifying risk factors and making safety recommendations. A corps of trained Home Safety Corps Volunteers deliver this service across Olmsted County. Must be 18+ years of age. The program provides a way for volunteers age 55 and over to stay active by serving children and youth in their communities. Volunteers serve at local organizations that: Help children learn to read and provide one-on-one tutoring Mentor troubled teenagers and young mothers Care for premature infants or children with disabilities Help children who have been abused or neglectedAll you need to join is the ability to give the kind of comfort and love that sets a child on the path toward a successful future. If you’re 55 or older and want to share your experience and compassion, you have what it takes to be a Foster Grandparent. Requirements: Volunteers have to be willing to serve at least 10 hours per week (schedules are flexible-- you set the hours that work best for you) and are 55+ years old. Our volunteer undergo background checks and we provide any training required. A majority of our guests are scared and feel alone when they first come to Gift of Life Transplant House. Thankfully there is hope. We at Gift of Life Transplant House do everything we can to alleviate as much stress from our guests as possible. We provide a safe, supportive home where they are surrounded by people that understand. Are you someone that enjoys providing comfort to others? What is more relaxing than a hand massage? Not only do our Hand Massage volunteers offer relief and comfort to the guests at Gift of Life Transplant House but they also offer companionship. Training is provided and schedules are flexible!
