We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with Mayo Clinic to extend our vital patient services to the Rochester, Minnesota area, bringing compassionate support to lung cancer patients and families in need.

Speakers are the messengers who carry important information and resources that can save lives to the public. Raising awareness about lung cancer may take place through presentations given at service clubs, faith communities, brown bag lunches at businesses or neighborhood gatherings. Every time vital information is passed to new people, we have made a step forward. In this role, you will work with staff to share information about lung cancer and ABOH to community groups and at community events.

Lung cancer carries an unkind stigma that often leaves patients feeling shamed and blamed. A Breath of Hope (ABOH) works to reduce this stigma and Increase lung cancer awareness and education to reduce late stage diagnoses, especially in low income communities where lung cancer is most prevalent.

Time Commitment

Speakers have the freedom to volunteer as often as they wish and may say no when the requested opportunity doesn’t work for them. ABOH does not require a minimum time commitment.

Transportation to and from doctor appointments is a barrier preventing lung cancer patients from receiving time sensitive diagnostics and treatments that are critical to achieving the absolute best care and outcome. To help these patients in need and ensure that they get to their appointments on schedule, ABOH offers a transportation service free of charge fueled by volunteer drivers.


If you love to help individuals in need, have experience with cancer and like to drive your car, then this volunteer position is for you. There is absolutely no quota or obligation as to how many rides that you must provide in a given timeframe. You simply raise your hand to fill the transportation request when it works for you and fits your schedule. It is that simple.

If you’ve navigated the challenges of cancer and want to help others facing a similar journey, this role is for you. As a Peer-to-Peer Companion, you will provide invaluable emotional support to patients and caregivers through texts, phone calls, and both virtual and in-person meetings.


What You'll Do:
- Offer a listening ear and empathetic support to patients and caregivers.
- Share hope and understanding, drawing from your own experience with cancer.
- Help ease the emotional and psychological burdens of a lung cancer diagnosis.
- Provide comfort and encouragement during this challenging time.


Lung cancer can be a physically, mentally, and emotionally draining experience, compounded by the stigma often associated with the disease. Our Peer-to-Peer Companions play a crucial role in alleviating some of these burdens, offering compassion and reassurance to those who need it most.
