Needs From: United Way of Southeast Minnesota

Volunteer: Housewarmer Volunteer

Housewarmers are the Heart of our Home, volunteering in three-hour hour shifts from 9:00am-10:00pm, 365 days a year.

Housewarmers make a difference in many ways at the Ronald McDonald House, aiding in the cleanliness and home-like feel of the House for all of our guest families. Tasks include but are not limited to, greeting families and community donations at the door, answering the phone, assisting with cleanliness of the House (vacuuming, cleaning of kitchens, loading/unloading dishwashers, sanitizing, etc), helping with the upkeep of laundry (linens/blankets/dish cloths, etc), helping organize storage rooms, provide tours to guest families and visitors, etc.

Housewarmers also have the option to learn how to become dinner hosts, front desk attendants and family activities volunteers!

We require all interested individuals to complete a short online orientation. To become an official volunteer, you must pass a background check, and complete two in-person training sessions (2 to 3 hours each in length).

We utilize a self-scheduling program that allows our volunteers to soon up for 3-hourur shifts when it fits their schedule. This is really convenient if you are unable to commit to a specific day and time each week. We also have availability Monday thru Sunday from 8am-10pm. We ask for a commitment of 2 shifts per month.

Please e-mail Meghan at mjirik@rmhmn.org, or call 507-361-2268 if you have any questions!

Volunteer: Family Mailbox Stuffers

The family mailbox stuffers are a great way to directly impact families as an individual, family, or group activity done in the comforts of your own space and on your own time. We are asking for 70 mailbox stuffers at this time.

This is a great way to help families feel supported, connected, and provide a bit of cheer and a smile. These "daybrighteners" can be as simple or complex as you would like to make them - the options are endless! Options include a simple note of encouragement, support, or day-brightening message, a $5 gift card to local coffee shops or restaurants, or small gifts like bubbles, books, or chalk. We greatly appreciate all efforts given to help make the day a little bit brighter for our families.

Please note:

These can be dropped off to our front entrance vestibule (850 2nd St SW) any day between 9am and 8pm. Out of respect for all families, we ask you to not use any religious items/sayings, etc., choking hazards for littles, or suckers. A good resource for ideas is Pinterest.
