Who We Are

Mission Statement: Founded in 1909 in response to the ongoing violence against Black people around the country, the NAACP is the largest and most pre-eminent civil rights organization in the nation. We envision an inclusive community rooted in liberation where all persons can exercise their civil and human rights without discrimination. We are committed to a world without racism where Black people enjoy equitable opportunities in thriving communities. The Rochester Minnesota Branch of the NAACP was established October 11, 1965. We envision an inclusive community rooted in liberation where all persons can exercise their civil and human rights without discrimination.

What We Do

The Rochester Branch of the NAACP focuses on advancing civil rights, racial equality, and social justice within the Rochester, Minnesota community. The initiatives we focus on and advocate for include addressing disparities in economic opportunity, health equity, education equity, housing disparities, public safety and criminal justice reform, and youth engagement. The Rochester branch of the NAACP also organizes community events, such as forums and rallies, to address issues like racial discrimination, hate crimes, and inequities in healthcare. Additionally, we collaborate with the community and organizations to promote civic engagement, leadership development, and cultural appreciation. We advocate for underrepresented groups, working to create a more inclusive and equitable society.
