The Literacy Program, housed in the Hawthorne Education Center, serves almost 2000 adult learners each year; each day between 300-400 adult learners and sixty of their preschool children receive services at the Center. Nearly 85% of the learners live at or below the poverty level. The adult learners, age 17 to 90, come together to improve their English, to get a high school diploma, a GED, Citizenship, prepare for college, and to master the life skills they need to be successful parents and citizens.
