Who We Are

We are a nonprofit daycare that has been proudly serving Rochester for 85 years.

We believe that children need a safe, healthy and loving environment where they can learn by discovering life for themselves. The Southwest Center is located in the house that was formerly owned by Dr. Donald Balfour and his family, and is on the National Historic Registry.  Civic League Day Nursery moved into the Balfour House in 1975 from their previous location.  Our children's classrooms are set up throughout the entire house; and our staff work hard at maintaining its charm and character.  The house is rich in historic detail with original fixtures, stained glass windows and crafted design.

Civic League Day Nursery has been caring for children since 1930, when it was founded to meet the needs of working parents.

What We Do

Our staff fosters a learning and fulfilling environment to our children everyday. We reinforce positive self-images which is essential to a child's sense of well-being and the ability to develop trusting relationships with responsibility for themselves should be encouraged.   Our children thrive in small groups with competent well-trained staff to give individual attention in an atmosphere that makes learning enjoyable and satisfying. Our curriculum is carefully planned, developmentally appropriate, daily programs to help each child develop to their full potential.  We believe and strive for the best system of care, which includes supportive partnership between families and the staff should be nurtured and maintained.
