This independent not-for-profit organization is governed by its membership through a Board of Directors.
What We Do
The History Center of Olmsted County invites our guests to explore and examine our past as we educate ourselves about the world around us. We do that through a variety of programs, exhibits and research opportunities. We collect, preserve and interpret the history of Olmsted County and love sharing our knowledge with the community while working with them to increase our knowledge for future generations.
The Olmsted County Historical Society was founded in 1926. In 1935, the Rochester Business and Women's Club spearheaded a project to collect materials related to Olmsted County history. In 1940, OCHS established quarters in the basement of the then new Rochester Public Library. The current site was purchased in 1957. The current building was constructed in 1973. Today the organization operates under the name History Center of Olmsted County.
