Help us kick off Running Start for School!
One in five children may not have access to basic school supplies because of their family's economic circumstance. Receiving a backpack filled with the tools needed to succeed in school can be a life changing experience. With over 8,400 children in Olmsted County eligible for backpacks and school supplies this year, we need your help getting students prepared for the 2015/2016 school year!
Show your support by stopping by the Bremer Bank tent on June 4 at Thursdays on First and 3rd (First Street Stage) and tell us how you'll be involved this year.
Kickoff fun includes:
- Selfie Station. Snap a selfie with your friends or family at our school supplies needed store and share with your friends how you plan to collect, volunteer, or give to improve children's lives in our community. Post your pics using #UWRunningStart to share the fun!
- $50 Scheels Gift Card Giveaway. Scheels knows the importance of children starting school off right, so they've partnered with United Way to do a gift card drawing for anyone who tells us how they'll be involved in Running Start for School!
- Cold Stone Gift Certificates. Summer is just around the corner, and for making a difference in the lives of Olmsted County students at our kickoff, you'll get a coupon for Cold Stone (while supplies last).
It takes our community working together to ensure all students are ready for the first day of school. We need help collecting lots of backpacks and school supplies. Some of the items we need are: backpacks, #2 pencils (194,000 needed!), 3 ring binders, colored pencils, crayons, large erasers, folders (specific colors), glue sticks, index cards, markers, spiral note books, paper, highlighters, pencil pouches/boxes, pens, rulers, scissors and sheet protectors.
